Holiday Time: What Toxic Family Role Are You In?

Holiday time and familyHoliday time can be stressful for a lot of people.

You may not know what to expect in your family or may feel tons of stress.

That’s normal. You’re not alone.

In this video, I discuss some of the roles you may be accustomed to playing in your family.

Holiday time can be one of the most stressful times of the year for you because of family and family roles your family has grown accustomed to playing.

Could I be impacted by family roles?

All families have family roles as it is something that keeps order and structure within a family system. However, if the family roles are unhealthy and unrealistic, you can find yourself feeling very depressed, isolated, and misunderstood. It’s important to understand the role you play so that you can “safely” get out of it and move on with your life.

What are family roles?

Common family roles that you may play includes the family hero, mascot/clown, scapegoat, and lost child. These roles may be fluid throughout the years and only apply to you at certain times within your family. In the following video, I offer a more detailed view of each role.

Can you relate to any of these roles?

As always, I wish you well

*CORONA VIRUS UPDATE1050 Lincoln Way, Ste 1 - Pittsburgh PA

States across the nation are passing laws, reducing restrictions, and enacting new regulations to help support the transition from stay-at-home orders to the normal flow of life again.

To keep everyone at Anchored Child & Family Counseling safe, I will only be opening the office for in-person sessions 1 day of the week. The other days of the week will consist of teletherapy sessions until the mask wearing restrictions are reduced or eliminated and corona virus cases have gone down.

My office assistant and I will be monitoring insurance policies for any changes to corona-related cost share, copayment, and coinsurance policies. I will be checking and rechecking insurance policies to ensure you will be covered for teletherapy. At this time, all major insurance companies (UPMC, Highmark, Aetna, Optum/United, and Cigna) are continuing to provide coverage for teletherapy into September 2020.
