Trauma-based & Family Psychotherapy For Angry, Anxious, Depressed, and Frustrated Families

Understanding Post Traumatic Psychosis

Post Traumatic PsychosisUnderstanding Post Traumatic Psychosis requires an understanding of PTSD.

It’s a sad reality but Post Traumatic Psychosis is an under-reported and under-studied condition that impacts many.

Post Traumatic Psychosis can involve delusions and hallucinations.

It can also include thought disturbance and impact the way that you see the world.

In this video, I discuss a phenomenon known as post traumatic psychosis. The behaviors of hospital staff and other mental health therapists, an involuntary commitment, coercive treatments, a bad experience with a mental health group, and even the experience of trauma itself can trigger PTSD with psychotic symptoms.

“Trauma, especially early life trauma, is a risk factor for the development of both posttraumatic stress disorder and psychosis. The goal of the present study was to determine specific associations between exposure to childhood abuse, PTSD symptoms, and current psychotic disorder.”

“Post-traumatic stress disorder is defined as a mental disorder that arises from the experience of traumatic life events. Research has shown a high incidence of co-morbidity between post-traumatic stress disorder and psychosis.”

*CORONA VIRUS UPDATE1050 Lincoln Way, Ste 1 - Pittsburgh PA

States across the nation are passing laws, reducing restrictions, and enacting new regulations to help support the transition from stay-at-home orders to the normal flow of life again.

To keep everyone at Anchored Child & Family Counseling safe, I will only be opening the office for in-person sessions 1 day of the week. The other days of the week will consist of teletherapy sessions until the mask wearing restrictions are reduced or eliminated and corona virus cases have gone down.

My office assistant and I will be monitoring insurance policies for any changes to corona-related cost share, copayment, and coinsurance policies. I will be checking and rechecking insurance policies to ensure you will be covered for teletherapy. At this time, all major insurance companies (UPMC, Highmark, Aetna, Optum/United, and Cigna) are continuing to provide coverage for teletherapy into September 2020.

Please check (the practice website) for updates and my business facebook page at:

Please continue to stay safe!
